OUR HISTORY
The IATSE is an international union that represents members employed in stagecraft, motion picture and television production, and trade show industries throughout the United States, its Territories and Canada. Local 822 represents members in wardrobe, makeup, and hair crafts in live theatre in Toronto.
Granted its charter from the International in 1950 with 7 wardrobe attendants as the original members, Local 822 (Theatrical Wardrobe) merged with Local 800 (Makeup Artists and Hairstylists) on July 1, 2003. We are now more than 130 members strong.
Local 822 holds collective agreements with most of the major venues in Toronto, including Meridian Hall, Meridian Arts Centre, Royal Alexandra Theatre, Princess of Wales Theatre, Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, Roy Thomson Hall, Massey Hall, and Scotiabank Arena. Our members work under agreements to Budweiser Stage, the Canadian Opera Company, Canadian Stage, Live Nation, Mirvish Productions, the National Ballet of Canada, Opera Atelier, and Ross Petty Productions.
Engaged and aligned, we provide our industry with a needed voice. Promoting professional, healthy, and ethical work environments, we endeavour to engage all hair, makeup, and wardrobe technicians to become part of our dynamic and talented team. We have a passion for the creative process and are determined to ensure employers recognize the value our colleagues provide.
